The Socialist Patriotic Youth League (SPYL), the youth of ruling party, WPK, of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), sent a message of solidarity to Vanguard Youth for the earthquake. The message also emphasized that the youth of the two parties should strengthen their cooperation against imperialism.
The Socialist Patriotic Youth League (SPYL), the youth branch of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), the ruling party of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), sent a message of condolence and solidarity to the Vatan Party Vanguard Youth due to the earthquake disaster centered in Kahramanmaraş. The Socialist Patriotic Youth League also thanked Vanguard Youth for congratulating them on the 81st Day of the Shining Star, the birthday of the country’s second president Kim Jong-il. Day of the Shining Star is considered one of the most important national days of the country and is celebrated with enthusiasm by the Korean people every year.
‘THE TURKISH PEOPLE AND YOUTH WILL HEAL THE WOUNDS TOGETHER’
The Socialist Patriotic Youth League used the following statements in its message to the Vanguard Youth:
“Dear comrades of the Vatan Party Vanguard Youth, friendly greetings from Pyongyang. We welcomed your letter of congratulations on the 81st anniversary of the birth of Comrade Kim Jong-il, the great leader of the Korean people.
Thank you for your warm congratulations even at a busy time when you are still recovering from the earthquake disaster that claimed tens of thousands of lives in your country. We believe that you, as the Vanguard Youth under the leadership of the Vatan Party, will fulfill your duty to heal the wounds of the disaster. We take this opportunity to express our belief that the Turkish people and youth will return to normal life together.”
‘VANGUARD YOUTH WILL BE OUR FIRST GUEST WHEN THE BORDERS OPEN’
In its letter of thanks, the SPYL welcomed Vanguard Youth’s plan to visit the DPRK for a second time and said that when pandemic measures are eased and the country’s borders are opened to foreign citizens, Vanguard Youth will be the first to be invited.
‘LET US STRENGTHEN OUR COOPERATION AGAINST IMPERIALISM’
The youth of Workers’ Party of Korea stressed that on July 27, 2023, the 70th anniversary of their country’s victory over US imperialism, they would like to organize an international online event with anti-imperialist youth organizations to strengthen solidarity and cooperation between the Socialist Patriotic Youth League and Vanguard Youth.

KIM JONG-UN ADDRESSES KOREAN YOUTH AT GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY
Kim Jong-un, President of the DPRK and General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new street in the Sopho district of the capital Pyongyang on Saturday, March 4, where 100,000 Korean youth volunteered to help build it. Addressing members of the Hero Youth Shock Brigade (named after Mount Baekdu (Paektusan) in the north of the country, where the country’s fierce battles with US imperialism took place) and the Socialist Patriotic Youth League (SPYL) of the Workers’ Party of Korea, President Kim Jong-un emphasized the vital role of Korean youth in the DPRK’s goal of becoming a modern socialist country.
100,000 KOREAN YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
State Affairs Chairman Kim highlighted the perseverance of Korea’s youth, who are voluntarily spearheading the construction of key infrastructure facilities in rural and urban areas of the country, and underscored the Workers’ Party of Korea’s confidence in Korea’s youth:
“Seeing all of you gathered here to represent the vitality, courage and passion of millions of young people all over the country, I feel extremely refreshed and encouraged. Shortly after the Party’s call, some 100,000 young men and women from all youth organizations across the country volunteered for the construction of the capital city of Pyongyang and immediately set out for the capital amidst the heartfelt encouragement and farewell of all other people. The whole country was deeply moved by this.”

“In the process, our laudable Baekdu Heroic Youth Shock Brigade has expanded and strengthened several times over. I have no doubt that our young builders will create an honorable symbol of the development and future of socialism at the northern gate of Pyongyang that will stun the world and fully demonstrate the courage of Korean youth who are ready to do so. Our youth is a youth who, in response to the call of the Party and the Fatherland, braves fire and water, and loves to work and lead the revolution.”
‘THE PARTY HAS FULL CONFIDENCE IN KOREAN YOUTH AND IS PREPARING THEM FOR THE FUTURE’
The Workers’ Party of Korea has decided to entrust the Socialist Patriotic Youth League and the Baekdu Heroic Youth Shock Brigade with this important project to create a characteristic street in 2023 by building 10,000 apartments in the city, as well as more than 4,000 apartments in the north gate area of the capital Pyongyang.
It is the Party’s intention to help our youth more vigorously demonstrate the heroic spirit and patriotic devotion characteristic of Korean youth at the great construction site in the capital, and to more satisfactorily prepare themselves as successors of the revolution, skilled builders of socialism, and future leadership cadres of the Workers’ Party of Korea.”
‘NOT JUST A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT, BUT A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN SHOWING THE CHARACTER OF THE REVOLUTION’
“The importance of the tasks assigned to you young builders lies not only in the fact that you will help increase the number of apartments for residents of the capital by several thousand. The new street you will build is a truly worthy and proud project to launch a new stage in the development of architecture focused on Juche (the Korean program of total independence).
The grand architectural ensemble of this characteristic avenue will vividly demonstrate the dignity of our country, which has developed by leaps and bounds, and will clearly and proudly show the world how our struggle for progress has dynamically developed more comprehensively and powerfully in the face of the harshest ordeals and challenges. In this sense, this is not just a construction project, but a kind of political campaign that shows the character of our revolution.”
‘DUTIFUL PATRIOTIC YOUTH OVERCOME ALL CHALLENGES’
“The construction of the new street is a tough challenge because you will have to complete this huge project in a short period of time. So once you start the project, you may face challenges from the very beginning. However, the strength of young people, burning with loyalty and patriotism, can overcome any trials and challenges.
You may falter or feel discouraged because you lack experience and skills and are not used to hard work. But you must overcome them with courage, trusting in the organization, the collective and the comrades, and remembering the promises you made when you volunteered.
You must learn from each other and help each other to innovate collectively in running the project. You must work with pure conscience and sincerity to build all elements of the project into quality items that you can proudly bequeath to future generations. I hope that each and every one of you will overcome the tests in good health and will surely emerge as honorable victors.
Comrades, let us all fight bravely for the honor of Korean youth, for the eternal prosperity of our socialist State and our capital city of Pyongyang, and for our parents, brothers, sisters and friends.”
